Radio 2 extends the Chris Evans Breakfast Show

91Èȱ¬ Radio 2 today announces that from Monday October 11, Chris Evans will kick off his weekday Breakfast Show at the earlier time of 6.30am, giving his millions of listeners an extra dose of early morning entertainment.

Chris comments: "And so from Monday 11 October we start The Radio 2 Breakfast Show half an hour earlier at six-thirty. Less sleep but no matter - more music, more fun and more coffee very much required. Oh and of course extra yoga and meditation..."

Radio 2 launched The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Monday 11 January 2010, ably assisted by esteemed newsreader Moira Stuart, traffic reporter Lynn Bowles and sports reporter Jonny Saunders.

The show quickly gained an army of millions of loyal listeners with features such as the Sporting Challenge, which sees Chris and Jonny tackle lacrosse, circus-skills, ice-skating and gymnastics.

Earlier this year, Chris presented his show from his own back garden as a part of his "Drive and Dine" fundraising weekend in aid of Children in Need, which raised thousands of pounds for the charity.

In August, Chris, alongside his co-presenters for the day Richard and Judy, broadcast the programme live from a field in Talland Bay, Cornwall, creating a campsite for hundreds of Radio 2 listeners. Over 100,000 people visited the Radio 2 website that morning to watch live video footage of Chris's show, which included Moira reading the news from a horsebox.

Bob Shennan, Controller, 91Èȱ¬ Radio 2 and 6 Music, comments: "Chris has proved so popular with the Radio 2 listeners that it makes sense to give him a little extra time, even though he'll have to move his alarm clock forward."

Further details of the early morning schedule will be announced in due course.

Notes to Editors

The last RAJAR figures published in August 2010 Q2 2010 reported that the weekly reach of The Chris Evans Breakfast Show was 8.48m.
