Thousands of people enjoyed an evening of classical and contemporary music in the grounds of Hillsborough Castle at this year's 91Èȱ¬ Proms in the Park at the weekend.

Over 4,500 were treated to a musical outdoor extravaganza headlined by The Priests, who were joined by some of the most accomplished and well known names in classical and contemporary music.

For the second year, the hugely popular outdoor musical concert was staged in the grounds of Hillsborough Castle and featured performances from Northern Ireland's own Duke Special; Russian-born violinist Alexandra Soumm; the Ulster Orchestra, under the baton of world famous composer/conductor Carl Davis; flautist Brian Finnegan and Irish Beats dancers.

91Èȱ¬ Proms in the Park in Northern Ireland is now in its ninth year. This year with support from Lisburn City Council, 91Èȱ¬ Proms in the Park teamed up once again with the Ulster Orchestra on a grand scale to present a night of popular classics.

91Èȱ¬ Northern Ireland's Noel Thompson and Claire McCollum presented the concert with the Ulster Orchestra conducted by Carl Davis and was broadcast live on 91Èȱ¬ Radio Ulster.

The event was part of the 91Èȱ¬'s prestigious Last Night Of The Proms celebrations as once again Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England hosted ambitious live events to mark the end of the world's largest classical music festival.

Local concert goers were able to view sections of the Last Night Of The Proms from the Royal Albert Hall throughout the night on a giant video screen in the grounds of Hillsborough Castle.

91Èȱ¬ Proms in the Park in the grounds of Hillsborough Castle was recorded by 91Èȱ¬ Northern Ireland and will be shown on television later in the year.

The Mayor of Lisburn City Council, Alderman Paul Porter, said he was delighted and proud that the City played host to such a spectacular event.

Alderman Porter said: "The 91Èȱ¬ Proms in the Park was once again a wonderful occasion for Northern Ireland. The line-up of world famous artists entertained Prom goers with a truly spectacular performance.

"Lisburn City Council was delighted to once again support the 91Èȱ¬ Proms in the Park, now in its second year at Hillsborough Castle. I would like to thank the 91Èȱ¬, the event organisers and the thousands of visitors who made the 2010 concert such a success and I look forward to many more such memorable events taking place in our city."
