Roll Deep shine light on new UKG talent in Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra show

On Saturday 24 July, as part of 91Èȱ¬ Radio 1 and 91Èȱ¬ Radio 1Xtra's 12 hour UK Garage Takeover, Roll Deep will be taking over their own show from 3am to 5am.

The number one UKG crew will be telling their own story in their own words. The collective also shine the light on new talent. Here Roll Deep member and 1Xtra DJ, Target, talks us through some of the artists they have chosen:

S-X – "Only 17 years old, we are rating him highly at the moment. He is the producer of the infamous Woo Riddim and has also produced a string of tracks for grime artists, all queuing up to get a beat from him. Being so young, he has plenty of time to grow as a producer and artist – he's gonna be huge."

Maxsta – "We met Maxsta last year and realised his potential straight away. This led to us getting in the studio with him and recording a load of tracks, some for my own project and some for his debut mixtape, The Maxtape. Maxsta reminds me of Dizzee when he was just coming up. The hunger and determination, mixed with a lot of talent means he'll go far."

Opium Tree – "Another young MC from East London who Wiley found. Opium has got to be the hungriest of all the up and coming MCs, always ready to work and is very talented when it comes to writing songs. His freestyle skills are sick as well, he will literally start spitting lyrics on request and won't stop! Bound to do big things in the UK."

Doctor P – "He is one of our favourite dubstep producers. I love the way he mixes the sick, hard basslines with melodic switch ups, widening the sound of dubstep. His track Sweet Shop is one of the biggest tracks in the clubs right now."

Cherri V – "Ever since Wiley showed me an acoustic session of Cherri on YouTube, I've been a fan. One of the best voices in the UK, without a doubt and great writing skills too. We recently recorded a track with her for the forthcoming Roll Deep album and Cherri is set to continue her assault on the UK music scene with her own material."

The UKG Takeover night, which will be simulcast on both stations, is set to celebrate both the 'old skool' days of the Nineties as well as charting the genre's evolution through to Grime and Dubstep and looking at some of the artists emerging on the scene now.

The night will also include exclusive tracks, interviews with UKG acts both old and new and highlights include a MistaJam soundclash plus Roll Deep and Dreem Team takeover shows.

In MistaJam's show from 8pm to 11pm, the Radio 1 and 1Xtra DJ pits four genres of UKG – Dubstep, Grime, Funky House and Bassline – against each other in a UKG soundclash. A DJ, producer and artist from each type of music will take part in themed rounds and the audience decides on the winner.

At 11pm Westwood hosts a two hour live MC session. Pioneers of the UKG scene, Dreem Team, present In The Beginning at 1am – a show with guests and a chronology of UKG anthems and moments.

The schedule for the evening is as follows:

7pm-8pm UKG 360
8pm-11pm MistaJam UKG Soundclash
11pm-1am Westwood
1am-3am In The Beginning with Dreem Team
3am-5am Roll Deep
5am-7am UKG Live Sessions with Ras Kwame
