On Tuesday 26 January 2010, digital radio station 91Èȱ¬ 6 Music is turning its schedule upside down and celebrating all things Australian.
The 6 Music Australia Day celebrations will see Steve Lamacq change his Drivetime slot for a much earlier start than he's used to, as he swaps with 6 Music Breakfast Show presenter Shaun Keaveny.
The Australian filling in the Lamacq/Keaveny sandwich will be Aussie comedy duo Hamish and Andy. As presenters of Australia's most popular radio show, Hamish and Andy bring their chemistry and unique comedic stylings back to 6 Music, after their successful debut on the network in December.
Hamish and Andy say: "It's our understanding the UK comes to an absolute standstill on Australia Day with schools, business and government shutting down for the day. We are honoured to be a part of official proceedings."
Paul Rodgers, Editor, 91Èȱ¬ 6 Music, says: "Turning the schedule upside down will give Breakfast and Drivetime listeners the chance to experience two uniquely talented radio presenters who usually broadcast at the opposite ends of the day. Hamish and Andy are another talented pair, and Australia Day gives 6 Music a great opportunity to showcase one of Australian music radio's great double acts and to celebrate some great Australian music."
Gideon Coe ends the day with a show consisting entirely of Australian artists, including concert highlights from AC/DC and The Triffids, plus sessions tracks by CW Stoneking, The Birthday Party, Julia Stone, Dead Can Dance. He also plays a new live track from Powderfinger, recorded especially for 6 Music by Sydney's Triple J radio station at the Big Day Out festival.
All programming across the day will reflect the Australian theme through music and guests.
