91Èȱ¬ Radio 5 Live Sports Extra will broadcast exclusively live from Europe's biggest extreme sports and music festival, White Air '09 in Brighton, on Saturday 19 September from 11.00am to 1.00pm.
Vassos Alexander will be live from Madeira Drive, Brighton, bringing a taste of the eclectic mix of extreme sports on display. Vassos will also be joined by broadcaster and journalist Luke Wilkin and sports broadcaster and Channel Bee regular Charlie Webster, who will be out and about around the festival.
As well as providing commentary from some of the events on display, the Radio 5 Live Sports Extra team will be speaking to some of the sportsmen and women competing and performing, plus musicians on the festival bill, as well as trying their hand at some of the sports on offer.
White Air is a three-day sports and music festival (18-20 September) which showcases more than 40 extreme sports including BMX, mountain biking, freestyle windsurfing, kite surfing, capoeria, street boarding, wake boarding, high dive, kite surfing, beach volleyball, mixed martial arts and streetdance.
The music line-up includes Doves, The Cribs, White Lies, British Sea Power and The Lemonheads.
Jonathan Wall, Commissioning Editor, 5 Live, says: "White Air gives 5 Live Sports Extra an opportunity to showcase hugely popular sports, which don't always get much national exposure, and bring a flavour of the festival to our listeners."
Nigel Howell, organiser of White Air, says: "It's great news that Sports Extra are going to be down here in Brighton to cover White Air, Europe's biggest extreme sports and music festival.
"With over 40 action sports on show, ranging from high diving to the Red Arrows, and incorporating the most amazing White Air freesports park ever seen, there will be plenty to keep the guys busy – and with the 'have a go' we will be making sure that they try them!"
