Pobol Y Cwm actors experience both sides of bullying

As the official Anti-Bullying Week begins (17-21 November) Pobol Y Cwm, 91Èȱ¬ Wales' daily drama series, will feature a storyline heavily accentuating the problems associated with bullying.

Sioned (played by Emily Tucker) has not settled in to Cwmderi since moving from Aberystwyth and she is now turning her evil attentions towards the innocent Lois (played by Mirain Jones).
Ìý
Emily Tucker found it difficult playing the bully as she herself was a victim of bulling when she was at school.
Ìý
She says: "I was about 13 and I was bullied by one person mainly, with others just following. Looking back, it was really bad and it made me feel very lonely."

Finally, Emily's bullying at school ended and she believes that this happend as a result of a series of events.
Ìý
"First of all I told the head of the year at school what was going on, and then I started to ignore the bullies and not let them get to me. I think they got bored. My friends helped me get through it too and I'm so grateful to them. Without them I could've ended up having to leave school because of bullying."

Emily says: "It is interesting to see things from the bully's perspective as I play Sioned in Pobol Y Cwm. The shoe's on the other foot and I can honestly say that I don't like it."

Mirain Jones also found it challenging to play the role of the victim but believes that it is important to highlight these issues on a series like Pobol y Cwm.

"Lois is normally a very confident character but now her character's changing – she cries all the time and she's feeling down. She hides the whole thing from her parents – which the bully does as well.
Ìý
"I think it's important that the plot shows how someone like Lois can be bullied – if she can be a victim so can anyone. Her mum's a headmistress, her sister's in school and Cai works there. She has so many people looking our for her but it's still happening."
