Rocking all over Kent: Status Quo's Francis Rossi joins Radio Kent's Dave Cash
|
More than 40 years on from introducing the band on Top Of The Pops, Dave Cash catches up with one of the hardest working names in rock, Status Quo's Francis Rossi, on 91Èȱ¬ÌýRadio Kent.
Ìý
In conversation with Dave, Francis talks about how he first got started and who his biggest influences were, from Little Richard to Connie Francis, and why the band keeps on touring, in a career that spans four decades.
Ìý
Says Rossi: "This is the life I wanted to do. We keep our heads down. We are still here and we are still working.
Ìý
"When I was really small I saw the Everly Brothers with my brother and thought that's it, strum and sing, sounds goods and me and my brother thought we'd do that.
Ìý
"My brother changed his mind before Christmas and got a train set and but I still got the guitar."
Ìý
Talking about the band's latest project, Rossi explains how the band wanted to challenge the stereotypical view of greatest hits albums, coming up with Pictures, a multi-media offering.
Ìý
He comments: "I am quite pleased and quite proud of it, because normally in the situations you've got another compilation out.
Ìý
"How do you justify another compilation and our fans do get fed up with it, and I understand that, and I get fed up with it." Ìý
And with the Quo known for their touring, Rossi explains what keeps them going: "There's something about the British tour. It's the close proximity of the audience and you can see each other's eyes.
Ìý
"And it only happens here, that certain rapport with the audience. There's a lovely vibe when you've got a full arena but it's not a personal vibe."
Ìý
Talking about the now legendary rocker, Dave Cash says on his web page: "He hasn't changed. He's still on the road and loving the life. He now shuns the flashy hotels in favour of a serious RV and he's down to three fags a day. But it's the same Francis on stage. He still loves it and it shows."
Ìý
Listeners can hear Dave Cash's interview with Francis Rossi in full this Saturday 18 October 2008 in 91Èȱ¬ Radio Kent's Rock & Roll Hour, 8.00-9.00pm, on 96.7, 104.2 & 97.6 FM.
