Radio 2's Young Brass Soloist Competition 2009

91Èȱ¬ Radio 2 is inviting young brass players to enter its prestigious Young Brass Soloist Competition.

The network is looking for brass players under the age of 21, of Grade 8 or equivalent standard, who play regularly with a brass band, wind band or orchestra.
Ìý
Entrants will have the chance to claim the title in 2009 and be heard on Radio 2's Friday night show, Listen To The Band, presented by Frank Renton.
Ìý
The winner receives an invitation to perform as guest soloist with a top championship band and be invited onto the network's flagship live music programme Friday Night Is Music Night.

The first round is judged by a panel of 91Èȱ¬ experts alongside significant figures in the brass band and classical music world.
Ìý
The semi-finals take place before an invited audience on Sunday 8 February 2009 at the 91Èȱ¬ studios in Manchester, and the final on Saturday 21 February 2009 at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

Competitors are accompanied by the Brighouse and Rastrick Band for the semi-final and by Black Dyke Band in the final.

The competition can be heard in full on Radio 2's Listen To The Band programme which is presented by Frank Renton.
