91Èȱ¬ to offer "series stacking"
|
The 91Èȱ¬ is to offer viewers the chance to catch up on every episode of some of their favourite series as "series stacking" is introduced to 91Èȱ¬ iPlayer and programme sites from 13 September 2008.
Ìý
Viewers will be able to enjoy any episode, after it has first been broadcast, for the duration of the entire series.
Ìý
Highlights of the 91Èȱ¬'s autumn schedule being series stacked include new 91Èȱ¬ One dramas Merlin, Tess Of The D'Urbervilles, Little Dorrit and Survivors; the best of popular and insightful factual output from 91Èȱ¬ Two such as The History Of Climate Change and Bruce Parry's Amazon; 91Èȱ¬ÌýThree comedy premiere Clone and other new and returning factual series; and Walking With Beeching and The Story Of Maths from 91Èȱ¬ Four.
Ìý
Series stacking extends the catch-up availability window for individual episodes beyond seven days after their transmission, giving viewers the opportunity to catch up on multiple episodes, up to a maximum of 13.
Ìý
Simon Nelson, Controller of Multiplatform and Portfolio, 91Èȱ¬ Vision, says: "Series stacking will really make the unmissable, unmissable.
Ìý
"Now, you'll be able to join a series half way through following a friend's recommendation and catch up on all the previous episodes – or watch them all in one go over a weekend.
Ìý
"Series stacking marks a key development in our strategy to let audiences view our programmes whenever and wherever they want."

Notes to Editors
Ìý
1. The 91Èȱ¬ Trust granted the Executive conditional approval to offer "series stacking" in April 2007.
Ìý
2. In its approvals, the 91Èȱ¬ Trust set an annual quota for series stacking of no more than 15% of all television content offered on-demand. The quota is to be applied as an average throughout the year. This guideline is to be reviewed after 24 months.
Ìý
3. Series stacking applies only to the first run transmission of the individual episodes of a series on any 91Èȱ¬ television public service.
Ìý
4. Stacking will first be introduced to the 91Èȱ¬'s online streaming catch-up services – 91Èȱ¬ iPlayer – and the 91Èȱ¬'s programme websites.
Ìý
The feature will be made available for online downloads and within 91Èȱ¬ iPlayer for TV platforms in due course.
