Radio 2 Young Folk Award: the search is on for new young
talent

91Èȱ¬ Radio 2 has launched the 2009 Young Folk Award and is looking
for people aged between 15 and 20, performing folk, roots and
acoustic music from any culture, to join in the annual UK-wide
competition.
Ìý
Prizes include gigs at top UK festivals, a Radio 2 session and a
year's free membership of the Musicians' Union.
Ìý
Entries will be
judged this September and up to 12 acts will then be invited to
the semi-final audition weekend in Stratford-on-Avon from 10 to 12 October.
Ìý
At the semi-final, Tom McConville, Damien Barber and other music
industry professionals will work with the entrants, leading
workshops in stagecraft, technical support and the music
business, and advise on their performances for the semi-final
concert.
Ìý
Up to six acts then go to the Queen Elizabeth
Hall, in London's Southbank Centre, for the final on Friday 5ÌýDecember.

Highlights of this show will be broadcast on Radio
2's Mike Harding show.

To enter, each group, duo or soloist should send a recording of

who have a busy folk festival itinerary for 2008.
