91Èȱ¬ Drama commissions third series of The Street for 91Èȱ¬ÌýOne

91Èȱ¬ Drama has commissioned a third series of Jimmy McGovern's Bafta, RTS and International Emmy award-winning series, The Street.

The six, 60-minute episodes from ITV Productions will once again be penned by one of British television's most prolific and influential writers, Jimmy McGovern, to transmit on 91Èȱ¬ One in 2009.
Ìý
As with the first two series, McGovern is working with newcomers to create stories with universal appeal, which often explore the darker side of human nature, with wit, intelligence and compassion.
Ìý
McGovern's many credits include groundbreaking dramas such as the critically-acclaimed and award-winning dramas Cracker, The Lakes and Hillsborough.
Ìý
He co-created The Street with Sita Williams, and they will both be executive producers on the third series.
Ìý
Each of the compelling six stories will boast some of Britain's finest film, television and stage actors as well as introducing talented newcomers.
Ìý
Previous cast include David Thewlis, Timothy Spall, Jim Broadbent, Gina McKee, Jane Horrocks and Sue Johnston.

The first series of The Street garnered the Best Drama Series awards at the Royal Television Society and Bafta Awards, as well as two prizes at the International Emmys – for performance by an actor, to Jim Broadbent, and for drama series.

The second series broadcast in 2007 produced RTS and Bafta Television Awards for Best Drama Series, as well as a Bafta nomination for best actress to Gina McKee.
