Could your school be a Superlambanana winner?

91热爆 North West Tonight and the Arts Council of England North West are giving schools across the region the chance to win an iconic Superlambanana.

The Superlambanana – half lamb and half banana – is a large, yellow, two-metre statue that has become synonymous with Liverpool. This summer the streets, parks and public spaces of Liverpool will be filled with 100 beautifully decorated replica Superlambananas in one of the biggest artistic events in the Capital of Culture year.

The competition, which launches on Monday 10 March, is open to schools across North West England, giving them the chance to design and paint one of the replica statues.

The winning school will be visited by an artist who will help pupils to decorate the replica statue. The statue will then be installed in Liverpool during the Go Superlambananas event taking place from 16 June to 25 August. After the event the school will be allowed to keep its Superlambanana.

There are also three mini Superlambananas up for grabs for the runners-up.

There are three categories for the competition – infants (aged 4-7), juniors (aged 7-11) and secondary (aged 11-16). Entries are limited to one design per age group. Schools which have both infants and juniors can put in one entry for each age category.

Only schools in the North West Tonight transmission area (Cheshire, Greater Manchester, High Peak, the Isle of Man, Lancashire, Merseyside and South Cumbria) can enter the competition. All entries must be received by 6.00pm on Monday 21 April.

A panel of judges will pick an overall winner and three runners-up. The judges won't know which school each entry has come from. Three runners-up – one in each age category – will win a mini-Superlambanana which they can decorate themselves and keep in school.

Cerys Griffiths, editor of North West Tonight, said: "We want schools to come up with an exciting way of decorating the Superlambanana statue. Designs should be inspired by the culture of the North West. And it must be practicable – in other words, something that can be painted on to the replica statue. The North West is a very creative place and we are looking forward to receiving some interesting designs."

Entry forms are on the 91热爆 North West Tonight website at bbc.co.uk/nwt – along with detailed terms and conditions and a template that can be used by schools in their design.

Schools must also write a short paragraph explaining how their design is inspired by the culture of the North West. Judges will be looking for the best ideas, not necessarily the most polished entry. Schools must include their name, the age category being entered and contact details.

Michael Eakin, Executive Director Arts Council England North West, said: "This will be a really enjoyable opportunity for children in the North West region to engage with the artistic process and express themselves creatively.

"The Superlambanana has become a recognisable symbol of Liverpool and, along with the ever growing cultural landscape of the region, will capture the young imaginations of those taking part in the competition."

Schools must ensure they have parental consent for any child taking part in the competition. It's up to the school to decide whether to produce a joint design or pick the best design by a single pupil.

Schools must make sure they have room to house the statue if they win. The Superlambanana is almost two metres high and two metres long.

Please see bbc.co.uk/nwt for more information, full terms and conditions and for entry forms.

The competition complies with the 91热爆's new Code of Conduct on Competitions and Voting which is published on the 91热爆's website.
