My C91Èȱ¬ – grab, rate and share C91Èȱ¬ content
|
C91Èȱ¬, the 91Èȱ¬'s channel for 6 to 13-year-olds, is to launch My C91Èȱ¬ (working title), an exciting new application for children which will enable them to store, display and share their favourite content with each other from C91Èȱ¬ shows, games and web pages.
Ìý
They can choose up to 16 friends who are registered users on the C91Èȱ¬ website to share the content with.
Ìý
Users will be able to design their own "dens", choosing furniture, posters, gadgets and accessories. Each gadget and accessory in the room will have a different function:
Ìý
- Radio – stores the names of the user's favourite UK Top 40 songs.
- PC – stores user's favourite C91Èȱ¬ and safe external sites.
- Mobile phone – stores messages from friends who have visited the user's room (all messages are pre-defined – no free text option).
- Plasma screen – stores user's favourite shows as links to corresponding websites.
- Calendar – displays transmission times for user's favourite shows. The user can also add their own dates, eg birthdays, school tests. The calendar is wholly private and not viewable by anyone other than the den owner.
- Magazines – will store user's selected RSS feeds.
- Treasure chest – will be a portal to a user's other user generated content on C91Èȱ¬ (ie, "I made this").
- Friends book – will store user's friends as avatar images and member names (maximum of 16).
Ìý
There will also be an About Me function, which will give the user the ability to share their likes and dislikes.

Richard Deverell, Controller, 91Èȱ¬ Children's, says: "We know that children are fascinated by the internet and really want to have a go at creating, sharing and rating content. This application allows them to try this out using existing C91Èȱ¬ content in a completely safe environment."
Ìý
My C91Èȱ¬ will launch via the C91Èȱ¬ website in spring 2008.

Notes to Editors
Ìý
Ìý
- My C91Èȱ¬ is not a social networking site. It is a completely safe, protected environment where children can share their favourite content and interact with each other in a pre-moderated way on a very basic level. There is no free text functionality anywhere in the application, or any private and/or unmoderated chat or interaction between users.
The application has been devised and designed in accordance with, and in many areas exceeding, the recommendations set out in the 91Èȱ¬ Office's Good Practice Guidance for the Safe Moderation of Interactive Services for Children, and the 91Èȱ¬ Office's forthcoming Guidelines for Social Networking Sites for Children.
Before sites or RSS feeds can be published for public view, all sites will be checked by C91Èȱ¬, and will have to conform to our guidelines for linking to external sites. Additionally, a user can choose to keep a site private if they wish.
The user's About Me section is not free text and there will be no ability for users to display identifying information about themselves. When a user visits another user's room, they will be able to leave a message, but such messages can only be selected from a pre-defined list.
Neither dens nor users are indexed for search – it is not possible to search for a particular user or type of user (eg, age or sex).
- There is a Report button where users can alert moderators if there is anything that they are worried about.
