Ann Widdecombe MP and Jude Kelly to take part in Radio 4's Lent Talks 2008

This year's Lent Talks on 91热爆 Radio 4 see six well-known figures reflect on the story of Jesus' ministry and Passion from the perspective of their own personal and professional experience.
听
The Lent Talks will be broadcast every Wednesday for six weeks from 13 February at 8.45pm.
听
- The Director of the Southbank Centre, Jude Kelly, argues that the famous and powerful should be required to spend 40 days wrestling with doubts in the wilderness;
- Professor Terry Eagleton questions the notion that Jesus' story is one of self-denial and argues that self-fulfilment lies at the heart of the Gospel message;
- writer Mary Loudon challenges society's attitudes to mental illness in her appreciation of Jesus' dealings with the demon-possessed and outcast;
- human rights lawyer Clive Stafford Smith draws on his experience of representing prisoners on Death Row to reflect on the story of Jesus;
- Ann Widdecombe MP meditates on the psychological agony of Jesus on the cross in witnessing the suffering of those who had loved and trusted and hoped in him;
- the Bishop of Durham, Tom Wright, reflects on the interval between Jesus' death and resurrection and the Christian experience of waiting in hope.
