Kenneth Branagh leads cast in new production of Cyrano de Bergerac for Radio 3

Kenneth Branagh leads
the cast in Edmond Rostand's Cyrano de Bergerac to be broadcast on
Easter Sunday, 23 March, whilst Joss Ackland plays Big Daddy in
Tennessee Williams' Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, broadcast on Sunday
16 March.

Set in Paris in 1640 Cyrano de Bergerac is a classic tale of
romance and tragedy: talented poet, swordsman and Cadet in the
French army Cyrano falls in love with his beautiful cousin Roxane
but lacks the confidence to reveal his true feelings due to his
large nose.
Ìý
Resigned to his loss Cyrano offers to help Christian
win her affections by writing love letters on his behalf, Roxane
falls in love with author of the letters not realising it is
Cyrano...

Branagh plays the lovelorn Cyrano, alongside Jodhi May (Last Of
The Mohicans, The Other Boleyn Girl) as Roxane, John Shrapnel (Gladiator) as De Guiche and Tom Hiddleston (Othello, Donmar) as
Christian.
Ìý
The play is directed by David Timson and is a Ukemi production for Radio 3.

Branagh last appeared on Radio 3 in
October 2005 in Terence Rattigan's Bequest To The Nation.

Tennessee Williams' Cat On A Hot Tin Roof is the powerful tale of
a dysfunctional Mississippi family brought together to celebrate the 65th birthday of
patriarch Big Daddy, who is unaware he has
terminal cancer.
Ìý
As the tension increases family secrets,
rivalries and infidelities rise to the surface.
Ìý
Joss Ackland
stars alongside Gemma Jones as Big Mamma, Marcus D'Amico as Brick,
Elizabeth McGovern as Maggie, Alison Steadman as Mae and Clive
Carter who plays Gooper.
Ìý
This new production is faithful to Tennessee
Williams' original text and is directed by Andy Jordan for
Ladbroke Productions.
