Over a third of UK secondary schools take up Baby Borrowers' teaching pack
|
91Èȱ¬ Learning's new teaching pack* has proved to be a great success with over a third of secondary schools in the UK requesting them. Available for free, this unique resource has been designed to help teachers discuss the realities of parenthood, sex and relationships with pupils.
Ìý
The pack – designed by 91Èȱ¬ Learning in conjunction with Love Productions – was created following the acclaimed 2007 91Èȱ¬ Three series The Baby Borrowers.
Ìý
The series, which returns to 91Èȱ¬ Three next week, was made in response to government research showing that Britain has the highest teenage pregnancy rate in Europe.
Ìý
Containing lesson plans and edited versions of the television programmes, the teaching pack aims to tackle the issue of teenage pregnancy in classrooms across the country.
Ìý
Liz Cleaver, Controller of 91Èȱ¬ Learning, says: "The Baby Borrowers is a really imaginative collaboration between television and education, and is helping to tackle a very real social issue. The response from schools has been tremendous."
Ìý
To assess the content of the teaching pack, and to ensure that the resource would be both engaging and stimulating for its audience, 91Èȱ¬ Learning developed the pack in consultation with teachers and pupils from a representative selection of schools throughout the UK. Ìý
The Baby Borrowers was an ambitious social experiment in which teenage couples were able to explore the realities of early parenthood by living with "borrowed" babies under the watchful eye of childcare professionals.
Ìý
The series is back on 91Èȱ¬ Three on Monday 14 January 2008. This time, called The Baby Borrowers On Holiday, five teenage couples have the added challenge of being at the seaside where they will have to manage the budget and keep the children entertained.
