C91Èȱ¬ me and my movie award in association with BAFTA – finalists announced
|
C91Èȱ¬ and BAFTA are proud to announce that four young film-makers have been nominated in the first C91Èȱ¬ me and my movie award in association with BAFTA.
Ìý
The competition was launched on Blue Peter in June this year and, to be in with a chance of winning the special award, children between the ages of 7 and 14 were asked to submit their original short films.
Ìý
The resulting entries were judged by a panel of industry experts from C91Èȱ¬, BAFTA and well-known celebrity faces including Anna Popplewell from The Chronicles Of Narnia, author Anthony Horowitz, Blue Peter's Andy Akinwolere and Newsround's Ellie Crisell.

The four nominees for 2007 are:
Ìý
- Go Practise (Oliver, 12, from Inverness) – a heart-warming animation showing how a cello-playing boy gets support for his musical endeavours from the most unusual of places;
- Neighbourhood Watch (Adam, 10, from Nottingham) – a thought-provoking story of a boy who spots a mysterious stranger lurking outside his house;
- Race Against Time (Patrick, 14, London) – an amusing tale with clever special effects telling the story of a boy who cycles back to a Lego-inspired Rome;
- The Unwelcome Stranger (Rosalind, 14, from Norfolk) – a powerful drama showing how one girl comes to terms with her parents' separation.
Ìý
All four young nominees will be attending the prestigious annual BAFTA Children's Awards on 25 November where the films will be screened. The winner will be announced on the night and will receive an exclusive award.

Controller of 91Èȱ¬ Learning Liz Cleaver says: "Through our nationwide summer roadshow and 91Èȱ¬ Open Learning Centres, thousands of children were given access to expert support and equipment.
Ìý
"Many of those attending had never picked up a camera before. Now they've begun on their film-making journey we can't wait to see the ongoing results. The campaign has also created great entertaining content on Blue Peter and online."
Ìý
Chair of the jury Jocelyn Stevenson says: "The 91Èȱ¬/BAFTA partnership was very exciting and enabled the academy to work with an audience we're keen to engage. The children who participated were unbelievably enthusiastic, and this enthusiasm supported a high level of creativity and innovation. The range and standard of the films submitted was mind-boggling."
Ìý
All nominated films are now viewable on the C91Èȱ¬ me and my movie website in the BAFTA area. This original 3D online space enables children to engage with the experience of film-making and upload, share and rate each others films – bbc.co.uk/cbbc/meandmymovie.
Ìý
The four nominated films will also be shown at the opening gala of the London Children's Film Festival at the Barbican (17 November 2007) on 91Èȱ¬ big screens across England, and the results will be featured on Blue Peter on Tuesday 27 November.
Ìý
C91Èȱ¬ me and my movie is a unique collaboration between C91Èȱ¬, 91Èȱ¬ Learning and BAFTA.
