The Nature Of Britain: Alan Titchmarsh Ìý

Alan Titchmarsh explores The Nature Of Britain

Alan Titchmarsh makes an epic journey across the length and breadth of the country to explore the huge diversity of wildlife in The Nature Of Britain.

Ìý

The eight-part series, which can be seen this October on 91Èȱ¬ One, is the first comprehensive portrait of the links between Britain's plants, animals and the places where we live for over 20 years and a first for the channel.

Ìý

Using the very latest in filming technology, such as ultra-high speed cameras and the heli-gimbal camera mount which gives rock-steady aerial shots, The Nature Of Britain brings many TV exclusives to our screens.

Ìý

These include killer whales hunting seals off Shetland, the underwater courtship behaviour of the pike, a honey buzzard raiding wasps' nests and otters in the River Tyne right in the centre of Newcastle.

Ìý

The ambitious series, made by the world-renowned 91Èȱ¬ Natural History Unit and co-produced by The Open University, also celebrates the uniqueness of British wildlife – from magnificent boxing hares to bizarre dung beetles; and from tiny harvest mice to mighty golden eagles.

Ìý

Focussing on eight distinct habitats – Island, Farmland, Urban, Freshwater, Coastal, Woodland, Wilderness and Secret Britain – familiar creatures are shown in new ways and rare and elusive ones are shown for the very first time.

Ìý

Alan says: "There is simply nowhere else in the world that has quite as much, quite so packed in such a small place. Final proof, if any were truly needed, that the British Isles truly are a special place."

Ìý

At the end of the network programmes viewers across the country can enjoy over 80 regional 10-minute opt-outs that highlight local nature and conservation activities.

Ìý

There is also the 91Èȱ¬ Four's The Nature Of Britain: A User's Guide presented by Chris Packham on the same night on 91Èȱ¬ Four.

Ìý

The dedicated website, bbc.co.uk/natureofbritain, is packed with extra information, details of events and activities around the country which are connected to the Breathing Places campaign. This campaign aims to inspire people to make space for nature.

Ìý

The Open University has also produced a free calendar to accompany the series. Viewers can call 0870 942 1343 or visit to get a copy.
