91Èȱ¬ Radio stars sing live to The Sound Of Music
|
91Èȱ¬ Radio Leicester celebrates its 40th anniversary with a show tune extravaganza that is sure to hit the right note with fans of musicals.
Ìý
For the first time more than a dozen of Leicestershire's amateur dramatic groups are brought together to perform in this unique event.
Ìý
During shows held at four of the county's top theatres 40 singers from a dozen amateur dramatic groups belt out 40 show songs to raise funds for the station's charity, The Ruby Rainbow Appeal.
Ìý
Popular presenters Monica Winfield, Martin Ballard and Dave Andrews compere the shows. The trio of Radio Leicester personalities also put their vocal chords to the test as they perform a couple of numbers, including an unforgettable interpretation of So Long, Farewell from The Sound Of Music.
Ìý
Some of the most memorable show tunes are performed from hit musicals including Joseph, The Sound Of Music, Camelot, My Fair Lady, Carousel, Wicked, Jolson, Summer Holiday, The Lion King, Evita as well as the song that inspired the event, Somewhere Over The Rainbow from The Wizard Of Oz.
Ìý
Radio Leicester's drivetime presenter Martin Ballard says: "Monica, Dave and I have been rehearsing furiously – well, we've been arguing a lot – but at least if our bit goes wrong, we can say it's all in a good cause!
Ìý
"Seriously – it should be a fantastic night for anyone who even vaguely likes the musicals."
