Mollie's animal magic!
|
91Èȱ¬ WM's Mollie Green is once again on a mission across Birmingham and the Black Country to ensure the regions' neglected and abandoned animals are cared for.
Ìý
Mollie and the team are out and about on the road next week from Monday (30 July) to Thursday (2 August), gathering donations of food, toys and blankets to pass on to four local animal rescue shelters.
Ìý
This is the second year that Mollie has campaigned for the region's needy animals. Last year's appeal surpassed all expectations, with over £30,000 worth of donations being received. This year Mollie wants to be even bigger and better.
Ìý
In the run up to this year's appeal, local manufacturers have already donated an estimated £50,000 worth of dog and cat food, and the campaign has not even kicked off yet!
Ìý
Mollie is visiting the following locations next week, where 91Èȱ¬ WM listeners can pop along and donate items towards the 91Èȱ¬ WM Animal Appeal:

Ìý
There is also a 91Èȱ¬ WM Animal Appeal donation point situated in the 91Èȱ¬ Birmingham Public Space at The Mailbox, from 30 July.
Ìý
The four local animal rescue shelters that the appeal is supporting this year are: Cats Whiskers in Great Wyrley; The Retired Greyhound Trust – linked to the Perry Barr Race Track; Birmingham Dogs' 91Èȱ¬; and New Cramar Cat Rescue in Hopwood.
Ìý
A recent outbreak of the Parvo virus at Birmingham Dogs' 91Èȱ¬ has meant the centre has had to burn all of their stored blankets. With over 150 dogs in the care of the centre, it is a desperate situation.
Ìý
With the help of the 91Èȱ¬ WM Animal Appeal, by donating quilts, blankets, towels and sleeping bags, the Birmingham Dogs' 91Èȱ¬ can once again help provide the warmth and shelter the dogs require.
Ìý
All of the animal rescue shelters that the campaign is supporting this year are independently funded and rely on donations to be able to look after the animals in their care and to be able to stay afloat.
Ìý
Mollie Green, 91Èȱ¬ WM Early Breakfast Presenter, says: "I'm so proud of the 91Èȱ¬ WM Animal Appeal and I know first hand what an impact it can have on the rescue centres we are supporting, some of which literally live month to month. Each and every person who comes along to support the appeal will be making such a difference."
Ìý
This year Mollie and the team are joined on the road by the Cats Protection Mobile Neutering Unit. The team are on-hand to offer advice and information at each location and will also be giving out free neutering vouchers – but please do not bring cats along.
