Any Dream Will Do winner Lee Mead holding Pudsey

Dream CD sales for 91Èȱ¬ Children in Need

Lee Mead faces another nail-biting competition this weekend as his recording of Any Dream Will Do for 91Èȱ¬ Children in Need makes its bid for the top of the UK charts.

Ìý

His chart nemesis is Rihanna, whose single Umbrella has dominated the top spot for five consecutive weeks, but Lee has fellow Any Dream Will Do finalists Keith Jack and Lewis Bradley in his corner, singing on the CD bonus track Close Every Door.

Ìý

Any Dream Will Do is also available as a download as well as a double track CD single and every copy sold will help 91Èȱ¬ Children in Need top last year's total of £32million.

Ìý

The single has given this year's appeal a fantastic head start and Lee Mead's leap from understudy to chart topper is not the only fundraising success being celebrated by the charity this week.

Ìý

Another large cheque will be written out to 91Èȱ¬ Children in Need this November thanks to the release of a second volume of 91Èȱ¬ Radio 2 Janet and John Stories.

Ìý

Penned by listener and TOG Mick Sturbs (one of Terry's Old Geezers), the stories of Janet and John Marsh, as read by Sir Terry Wogan on his Radio 2 breakfast show and inspired by the early reader books, proved to be an astonishing fundraiser last year.

Ìý

A real cottage industry, with the CDs produced by an independent label, packaged and distributed by Terry's listeners at home, the release far exceeded initial expectations.

Ìý

Only 5,000 CDs were produced at the beginning but the recording actually went double gold - with some 220,000 sales - and over £1million was raised for the 2006 appeal.

Ìý

The second instalment, Janet and John: Reloaded, is already another bestseller. Nearly 30,000 copies have been sold in only six weeks and close to £300,000 raised for 91Èȱ¬ Children in Need.

Ìý

As this new release drives additional sales of the first volume, perhaps the TOGs and Pudsey can look forward to their very first platinum disc!

Notes to Editors

Ìý

The two songs from Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat have been licensed to Polydor by the Really Useful Group and all net proceeds from the sale of the single will go to 91Èȱ¬ Children in Need.

Ìý

Janet and John: Reloaded includes 16 brand new stories and a bonus CD featuring an exclusive Beth Neilson Chapman recording, outtakes from the world of radio news and travel, and some archive video footage of a young Terry Wogan talking about his efforts to fight the flab.

Ìý

It is available from priced £15 (with a minimum of £9.75 going to 91Èȱ¬ Children in Need) and is also on sale in 91Èȱ¬ Shops.

Ìý

The TOGs have raised huge amounts for 91Èȱ¬ Children in Need over the years, initially through the sale of a calendar and now through a range of merchandise that includes the Janet and John CDs, egg cups and cartoon greeting cards.

Ìý

The 91Èȱ¬ Children in Need Appeal is a registered charity, number 802052. Every penny donated to the appeal is distributed by the charity in the form of grants to projects working with disadvantaged children and young people across the UK.
