David Miliband promises to "Do One Thing" for 91Èȱ¬ Springwatch Festival
|
David Miliband, Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Secretary, will pledge to "Do One Thing" as part of a 91Èȱ¬ Breathing Places
initiative being launched at the Springwatch Festival this weekend.
Ìý
He will make his promise on The Politics Show, on Sunday 10 June 2007,
from 12 noon, on 91Èȱ¬ One North East and Cumbria.
Ìý
The programme will come live from the
Springwatch Festival at Leazes Park, Newcastle.
Ìý
In an interview to be
shown on the show, David Miliband tells presenter Richard Moss: "Like many households we are trying to do more. We have got cavity wall
insulation, we are recyclers and we have a compost heap in the garden."
Ìý
"We're also trying to take seriously the need to cut carbon on our
electricity supply. We haven't put wind turbines on our roof – but we
have changed our electricity supplier to one that only uses wind energy."
Ìý
"We're trying to make a contribution but I would never say I was a
saint!"
Ìý
Anyone going to the 91Èȱ¬ Springwatch Festival, held as part of the Green
Festival at Leazes Park on Saturday and Sunday (9 and 10 June) – and
Blaydon Burn on Saturday – will also be asked to "Do One Thing" to help
the environment.

Mr Miliband added: "I have committed to buying a water butt that will
help harvest rainwater in the garden. It will ensure we are using
rainwater that hasn't been treated when we water the garden."
