Andrew Lloyd Webber and Matt Lucas talk love, marriage and musicals with Graham Norton

Andrew Lloyd Webber and Matt Lucas talk love, marriage and musicals when they join Graham Norton for this week's edition of The Graham Norton Show on 91Èȱ¬ Two.

Ìý

Andrew swaps notes with Matt, who recently celebrated his civil partnership, about what makes a successful marriage: "Very simple and very corny, it's love. That's what makes my musical theatre tick. If we could only remember love changes everything, it's so important."

Ìý

He also reveals that he is an advocate of gay adoption: "I got into trouble in the House of Lords because I voted in favour of gay adoption of children. I think it's a very serious point."

Ìý

"Who knows," says Matt, "maybe we [with his partner Kevin] will adopt – maybe another gay, who knows!"

Ìý

Along with his family, Andrew counts himself a big Little Britain fan: "The only thing my kids wanted to do was see Little Britain. Forget Monty Python now," and says Little Britain – The Musical would get his vote: "Why not? It's a great idea, I can't see any reason why not."

Ìý

Matt talks about a forthcoming United States series for HBO: "It's set in America, there'll be some new and some old characters, they wouldn't understand Vicki Pollard but others like Lou, Andy and Bubbles will stay the same. We don't know the title yet and we'll have to have some voice coaching ... now people are receptive to British comedians."

Ìý

Andrew also reveals that away from his TV commitments he's busy composing the sequel to The Phantom of the Opera:

Ìý

"I've got to write another show soon or I'll go mad, the most important thing is the plot so I've been writing it myself with Frederick Forsyth."

Ìý

But he says there's been a hitch in his composing in the form of his new cat, Otto:

Ìý

"I was trying to write some new music, he got into the grand piano, jumped onto the computer and destroyed the entire score for the new Phantom in one fell swoop!"

Ìý

As for Joseph: "You can only do a TV casting show with very few shows because it's got to be about something everyone knows – you could probably do My Fair Lady, Jesus Christ Superstar, people have to have a real feeling that they could choose that person ... in that last minute of each show it's a nightmare ... [whatever happens] we've got a seriously good contest."

Ìý

And there's music from Sinead O'Connor performing her new single, I Don't Know How To Love Him live in the studio.

Ìý

The Graham Norton Show is a So Television production for 91Èȱ¬ Two.
