Radio Stoke presenter off to pastures new
|
91Èȱ¬ Radio Stoke's Breakfast Show presenter, Janine Machin, is leaving the station to launch a career in television, presenting the 91Èȱ¬'s regional news programme in Cambridge.
Ìý
Janine, who was born and bred in Stoke-on-Trent, presented her farewell show to her listeners on Friday 18 May.
Ìý
Janine's new job is a fantastic achievement, considering she joined Radio Stoke straight from finishing a degree at Oxford University, just seven years ago.
Ìý
She began her radio career working on the station's lunchtime programme, answering the phones. Janine was soon given her own show in the afternoons, before co-presenting the Breakfast Show.
Ìý
Two years ago, she took on solo presentation of the Breakfast Show, making it one of the most popular, lively and listened-to breakfast shows in Radio Stoke's 40 years of broadcasting.
Ìý
Janine says: "It's been a privilege waking up the people of Stoke and Staffordshire – I've loved working here.
Ìý
"I'll miss my friends and my colleagues, but most of all I'll miss the fantastic listeners who have helped make presenting the breakfast show such a joy.
Ìý
"Although I'm looking forward to the new challenge of working in TV, my heart will always be here in Stoke!"
Ìý
Jeremy Pollock, Acting Editor, Radio Stoke, says: "Janine's a fantastic success story – from phone answering to TV via her own breakfast show.
Ìý
"She's made an excellent contribution to Radio Stoke and will be hugely missed by everyone. Janine will be just as big a success working in TV – I don't think the people of Stoke and Staffordshire have seen the last of her!"
Ìý
Lamont Howie takes on the Radio Stoke Breakfast Show (from Monday 21 May), for the time being. Listeners know Lamont well from his weekend breakfast shows, where he has built up large audiences on Saturdays and Sundays since joining the station a year ago. Lamont is already the regular stand-in for Janine on the weekday breakfast show.
Ìý
Lamont will also continue presenting Sunday Breakfast, but Saturday Breakfast is being taken on by Paula White. Paula is also well known to Radio Stoke listeners for her drive-time show during the week and will be a great addition to Saturday mornings.
