Ricky from Kaiser Chiefs said: "Kaiser Chiefs are pretty much delighted to be playing Radio 1's Big Weekend! We did it a couple of years ago and no-one really knew who we were, so it will be nice to come back as megastars.
Ìý
"I shall expect Colin Murray to carry me to the stage. I hope everyone will come and have a great day, and if you can't come, sit in your garden, sprinkle some grass in a beer, and turn up the radio. See you in Preston."
Ìý
Bloc Party said: "Bloc Party are pleased to announce that we'll be playing Radio 1's Big Weekend in Preston on May 20th. Radio 1 usually puts on a good shindig and this will be no exception. Come, rock out, act in an essentially responsible manner, then go home. It'll be great."
Ìý
Jo Whiley said: "This is what kicks off the festival season for me. It's always a lot of fun and a brilliant chance to see a stack of bands in just two days – because it's so intimate you don't have to do the legwork like at Glasto and other festivals.
Ìý
"I'm really excited about seeing some of the newer bands who I've not seen yet – the likes of Cold War Kids, M.I.A. and Gossip, but also seeing some of the bigger names like Razorlight, The Fratellis and Scissor Sisters in our sweaty circus tent will be an absolute thrill."
Ìý
Zane Lowe said: "Radio 1's Big Weekend always kicks off the festival season and, for our tastes, its the best line-up yet. From Klaxons to Kaiser Chiefs, everyone is going to deliver on that weekend in Preston."
Ìý
Pete Tong said: "Radio 1's Big Weekend for me is now one of the year's highlights, it's a unique opportunity to see a stellar and diverse selection of acts coming into their prime in a festival atmosphere, and it's the only time of the year when the Radio 1 family really get together to host the party.
Ìý
"Highlights for me this year include, Groove Armada, LCD Soundsystem, M.I.A, Jamie T and Calvin Harris and a chance to hook up again with Vernon for some club classics and a lot of fun!"
Ìý
Jason Carter, Editor of Live Music & Events, Radio 1, said: "Radio 1's Big Weekend will be bigger and better than ever before this year. With an unprecedented line-up of artists and the addition of a third outdoor stage, we have looked to bring something extra special to Preston this year.
Ìý
"Once again, there will no doubt be a massive demand for tickets, if you are a successful applicant then you'll truly be one of the lucky ones! The event is in its seventh year and remains one of the most unique events on the UK live calendar.
Ìý
"For those who can't make it down, the live music will be on Radio 1 and on 91Èȱ¬ TV, red button and online across the two days."
Ìý
Steven Jones, Preston City Council's Director of Regeneration, Community and Leisure Services, said: "Preston is already alive with anticipation and excitement and, as Radio 1's Big Weekend draws closer, that infectious buzz will no doubt intensify. This event is huge and being the focus of so much national attention will really put Preston on the map.
Ìý
"The council, together with local partners, is working hard to ensure the event is a phenomenal success, that we harness the opportunity to significantly boost the city's economy and make sure we give local people something to be proud of.
Ìý
"Ultimately, we hope that the legacy of Radio 1's Big Weekend will live on and that visitors leave Preston with a positive impression and a desire to return."

Notes to Editors
Ìý
Ìý
- Ticket registration will be open for a week, from Monday 30 April at 8am. Registration closes on Monday 7 May at 8pm.
There are only 30,000 tickets available for the event.
Tickets are given out in pairs, successful entrants will be able to specify which day they would like to go and will get a pair of tickets for one day.
Entrants can only enter once, multiple entries will be discounted.
Radio 1 will email entrants on Wednesday 9 May to advise if they have been successful or not. Tickets will then be mailed out by first class post.
Tickets are secure and traceable – every ticket is securely printed with a unique barcode and the name and address of the person who received it. If an entrant has been selected but does not receive tickets, Radio 1 will cancel the original ones and advise how to get replacements. Tickets will be scanned on the gate and any cancelled tickets will be rejected.
Radio 1 advises not to risk buying tickets from other people – to apply for tickets, people will be asked to accept a condition that says they will not re-sell the tickets. Wherever possible we will invalidate any tickets re-sold. Valid tickets for Radio 1's Big Weekend are free and are only available from Radio 1 or its partners.
Radio 1's Big Weekend is open to people aged 14 or over. Fourteen and 15-year-olds must be accompanied by someone over 18.
Last year's Radio 1's Big Weekend in Dundee brought listeners Franz Ferdinand, Muse, Snow Patrol, Gnarls Barkley, Pink, Primal Scream, Sugababes, The Streets and more.
The event is accessible – the two main stages have viewing platforms for disabled people. Disabled parking is available for anyone with a blue badge.
Radio 1 will also be hosting The Fringe – a series of events in Preston in the week leading up to Radio 1's Big Weekend to support local unsigned bands and musicians, local educational establishments and out-of-school youth initiatives. More information will be available online at bbc.co.uk/radio1.
- Radio 1 will also have a OneLife tent on-site where Radio 1 DJs and local youth organisations will take part in workshops and masterclasses with festival-goers.
