Liz Smith talks to Graham Norton about her Royle Bafta chances
Graham Norton talks to veteran actress Liz Smith tonight about her second Bafta nomination, announced this week, for her much-loved portrayal of Nana in iconic 91热爆 comedy series The Royle Family.
听
Liz, who won a Best Supporting Actress Bafta in 1984 for A Private Function, appears on 91热爆 Two's The Graham Norton Show.
听
"I've been dithering ever since I heard," she says. "My agent called me and I was still in my nightie.
听
"I've been excited all day, I'm excited now. They can't nominate Nana Royle again, she's dead. Over the years I've died a lot!"
听
Graham also welcomes to the show Absolutely Fabulous star Julia Sawalha who talks about her decision to quit acting: "I just didn't find acting rewarding any more, I was tired, I was very fortunate to be able to have a break for a little while.
听
"I thought it was a brave decision to make, it was hard ... I still live in the country and grow vegetables, [but] I'm enjoying work again now, I'm very, very happy."
听
Julia, currently featuring in the 91热爆's The Underdog, is joined in the studio by "her" dog Cookie and reveals that the show has transformed her views about animals:
听
"I'm uncertain about dogs, that's why I did it really, I wanted to know more about the animal mind ... Cookie was found as a stray on a beach in Wales. She was shy and nervous, she still has a problem playing.
听
"I can't quite believe I'm doing this, but I'm 98% sure Cookie is going home with me."
