Student radio presenter takes over 6 Music Chart Show


Philippa TJ, an award-wining student radio presenter and third year politics student at Nottingham University, is set to become the new presenter of the 91Èȱ¬ 6 Music Chart on Sunday 8 April 2007.

Philippa is currently the head of music at University Radio Nottingham and was awarded the Gold Award for Best Specialist DJ at last year's Student Radio Awards.

She becomes the first 6 Music presenter to join the network from student radio.

Ìý

The 6 Music Chart (Sundays, 2-3pm) showcases the best new alternative music that has yet to breakthrough into the mainstream charts.

Ìý

Joanna Newsom, Midlake, Sufjan Stevens, CSS and Scott Matthews are just some of the acts to be have been championed on the 6 Music Chart show in the past year before they reached a wider audience.

Philippa TJ says: "Jumping from University Radio Nottingham to 6 Music whilst still at university is pretty crazy. Being called up to be offered the show was like the Spice Girls reforming; completely unbelievable but bloody exciting!

"I can't wait to be part of the station, use the coffee machine and tinker with the faders. 6 Music is a big old leap from student radio but I think I'm going to bring something new to the schedule and it's great that I'm being welcomed with open arms."

Lesley Douglas, Controller, Radio 2 and 6 Music, says: "6 Music has worked closely with the Student Radio Association for the past five years to support the development of new talent and so I'm delighted that one of its rising stars is taking over the Chart Show.

Philippa TJ (Treverton-Jones), 21, from Newport, South Wales, is currently completing her final year at the University of Nottingham.

Ìý

She has been actively involved in University Radio Nottingham as both head of music and as a presenter of numerous programmes.

Ìý

As well as winning Best Specialist DJ at the Student Radio Awards last year, she has won a total five Gold Student Radio Awards for her work at University Radio Nottingham.
