The Singles – developing distinctive drama with 91Èȱ¬ Scotland & Scottish Screen
|
With an investment totalling more than £1.5million, 91Èȱ¬ Scotland and Scottish Screen are continuing their creative partnership with the launch of an exciting, returnable brand of 60-minute single films.
Ìý
Independent producers and production companies are invited to submit ideas from Monday 2 April 2007 onwards.
Ìý
The commissioning of development will be a continuous, rolling process with up to ten projects being developed in 2007/8. Up to three films will be selected for production and a guaranteed 91Èȱ¬ Scotland transmission.
Ìý
The purpose of the joint development slate is to find fresh, audacious and entertaining projects with universal appeal, utilising the best of writing, directing and producing talent.
Ìý
Each film should display a strong sense of authorship with a bold, clear idea at its heart. All films must have a contemporary feel and be set and filmed in Scotland.
Ìý
Anne Mensah, Head of Drama, 91Èȱ¬ Scotland, believes The Singles are an excellent opportunity to build on Scotland's strong drama roots: "From Tutti Frutti to Taking Over The Asylum and The Crow Road, Scotland has always been home to the best television drama in the UK.
Ìý
"Our hope is that these singles will represent the next generation of Scottish stories on TV and we're delighted to be able to support the production community in this way."
Ìý
Carole Sheridan, Head of Talent and Creativity, Scottish Screen, added: "This is an important initiative for Scotland. It provides a whole host of companies and individuals with an opportunity to raise their drama profile. Scottish Screen is always delighted to be working with 91Èȱ¬ Scotland to achieve this."
Ìý
Together 91Èȱ¬ Scotland and Scottish Screen have been responsible for award-winning productions including Ratcatcher, Morven Callar and Tartan Shorts.
