Interest in England's Ashes defence made Test Match Special the most visited 91Èȱ¬ weblog in December 2006.

The 91Èȱ¬'s latest monthly statistics show the blog generated 3.6 million page impressions and now averages 113 comments per post, despite the steady stream of gloomy news from down under.

The TMS podcast also performed strongly, with more than 175,000 downloads over the month.

The Ashes contributed to a leap in online listening to 91Èȱ¬ Five Live Sports Extra.

The digital-only station welcomed more than 200,000 unique user agents to its website in December who between them listened to 475,000 hours of live sports coverage - more than double November's tally.

Also in December, 91Èȱ¬ 6 Music's Selector 2006 - featuring guest programmers Courtney Love, Oasis and Moby - helped the digital station attract its largest online audience for over two years: 385,000 unique user agents visited the 6 Music website during the month and over half of them checked out the Selector minisite.

The Digital Radio website also experienced a seasonal bump in traffic thanks to a marketing campaign and an influx of shoppers researching Christmas purchases.

Some 69,000 postcodes were checked using the site's DAB coverage checker during December.
