Carol Smillie eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing

Scot Carol Smillie got the Highland fling tonight after failing to impress the public on 91Èȱ¬ One's Strictly Come Dancing.

Ìý

This week the competition stepped up a gear, as each of the couples had to perform two dances, one Latin and one Ballroom.

Ìý

Each performance was marked out of 40, and then added together to give a total score out of 80.

Ìý

Carol and partner Matthew Cutler performed the Viennese Waltz and the Samba, which each scored 34, their highest scores yet in the competition, giving them a total of 68 and third place on the leader board.

Ìý

The judges said about the Viennese Waltz -

Ìý

Len: "You were like a great big red swan gliding across the water. Fast clever footwork, beautiful rotation."

Ìý

Bruno: "Well the lady has surpassed herself tonight. the dream unfolded."

Ìý

Arlene: "Um, Carol, you're a little bit like a science teacher, you understand the workings of the body, you're politically correct, you had a fixed smile on your face. But I want to see you go that one step more and make it come from inside."

Ìý

Craig: "I would have liked to have seen a little more flow, your foot came off the floor in the turn spin, you need to open your chest a bit more. But you know what? It was amazing."

Ìý

And on the Samba -

Ìý

Len: "If you keep this up you'll be here for Christmas Carol. That was very good."

Ìý

Bruno: "Finally the lady is a tramp. You can shake it."

Ìý

Arlene: "I think I've been down on Carol but what I say is you sexy samba sizzler. You know what your hips are for!"

Ìý

Craig: "It wasn't one of my favourites, the steps were all there. Your jaw is still protruding a little bit."

Ìý

Despite scoring top with the judges, Emma Bunton and partner Darren Bennett found themselves in the bottom two with Carol and Matthew.

Ìý

They scored an impressive 37 for both their Waltz and their Paso Doble giving them 74 out of 80 but they failed to get the viewers votes.

Ìý

The four remaining couples will each be performing another two dances they have not done yet in next week's quarter final where there will also be a special twist.

Ìý

The two couples scoring bottom with the judges and the viewers next week (9 December) will face a dance off.

Ìý

They will perform their best dance of the night once again for the judges and viewers' vote. The phone lines will re-open and the lowest scoring couple will be eliminated.
