|
Award-winning comedian Russell Howard is to present a new show for 91Èȱ¬ 6 Music.
Ìý
Russell's Sunday morning show will start on Sunday 12 November 2006 (10am-1pm).
Ìý
Lesley Douglas, Controller, 6 Music, says: "I'm really pleased that Russell Howard is joining 6 Music. He is one of the most exciting stand-up comics around.
Ìý
"And yes, you have to be called Russell to present a show in this slot!"
Ìý
Russell is taking over the slot from Russell Brand who moves to 91Èȱ¬ Radio 2.
Ìý
Russell Howard currently co-hosts the Saturday lunchtime show Out To Lunch on Radio 2 with fellow comedian Rob Deering.
Ìý
Howard, famed for his off the cuff improvisational style, was recently nominated for an If.Comeddie (formally Perrier) award for his 2006 Edinburgh show Wandering.
Ìý
The show was described in a four-star review in the Guardian as: "if you're in the mood for some freewheeling stories, anecdotes and a young comic with enough energy to power a small country, Wandering is the show you're after... a superbly funny ride."
Ìý
And the London Evening Standard declared that Russell was "destined for major greatness".
Ìý
Although only 26, he has already completed three critically-acclaimed sell out runs at the Edinburgh Festival, performed on the Edinburgh and Beyond TV show for Paramount Comedy as well as appearing at numerous comedy festivals, and as a panellist on 91Èȱ¬ Two's Never Mind The Buzzcocks and Mock The Week.
Ìý
He has also performed on a wide range of radio shows including the Arthur Smith Lectures on Radio 2 and both Loose Ends and Banter on 91Èȱ¬ Radio 4.
Ìý
Russell Howard says: "I'm delighted and a little bit giddy to be joining 6 Music as it is a cutting edge station with a wonderful creative approach and is undoubtedly one of the coolest places to be."
