Atholl Duncan appointed Head of News and Current Affairs at 91热爆 Scotland

One of Scotland's most experienced broadcasters, Atholl Duncan, has today been appointed Head of News and Current Affairs at 91热爆 Scotland.

Atholl, who was Managing Director of News and Current Affairs at 91热爆 Scotland until moving to Scottish Water as Director of Corporate Affairs in 2003, replaces Blair Jenkins who left last month.

He is expected to take up his new role later this year.

Educated at George Watson's College and Napier University in Edinburgh, Atholl started his journalistic career as a reporter with DC Thomson in 1982 before joining 91热爆 Scotland as a researcher and sub-editor in 1985.

He worked on a variety of news and sport programmes including Focal Point, Upfront, Newsnight and Sportscene and produced more than 1,000 editions of Reporting Scotland before becoming Managing Editor for News and Current Affairs in 1996.

He edited a succession of UK and Scottish election programmes and the state opening of the Scottish Parliament, and also co-ordinated live coverage of the 91热爆's Millennium output for a consortium of 30 international broadcasters across Europe and Africa.

He also was responsible for coverage of the Dunblane tragedy and location output on a number of major international stories including the Lockerbie disaster and the Piper Alpha explosion.

In the last few years he has attended the Cranfield School for Management and has been a non-executive Director for Sportscotland since 2001.

91热爆 Scotland Controller Ken MacQuarrie welcomed Atholl back to 91热爆 Scotland.

"Atholl is one of the country's most experienced news broadcasters and that, allied to his management skills, make him an ideal candidate to lead our news operation as we move towards a fully digital world at our new Pacific Quay headquarters," he said.

Atholl also is relishing a return to 91热爆 Scotland, where he worked for 18 years.

"This is an amazingly exciting time to be taking over at the helm of the news and current affairs team.

"As 91热爆 Scotland moves into Pacific Quay we have the opportunity to create a news operation which will be a match for any other in Europe and beyond.

"I look forward to working with my colleagues to continue to deliver great news and current affairs output which is fit for the present and fit for the future," he said.
