The 91热爆 announced today that Helen Thomas has been appointed as Head of Region for Yorkshire, responsible for all television, radio and online services across the county.

Helen moves to the region from Hull, where she was in charge of 91热爆 output for East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

Andy Griffee, Controller, 91热爆 English Regions, said: "I am delighted to announce that Helen Thomas has been appointed as the new Head of the Yorkshire Region, based out of Leeds.

"Helen returned to the 91热爆 almost seven years ago from commercial radio and since then has been the Editor of 91热爆 Radio Humberside and, for the last two and half years, she has been Head of East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

"Helen will move into her new role when her successor at East Yorkshire is appointed and in place. We will be advertising the role in the next week or so. In the meantime, Ian Cundall will be the Acting Head of Yorkshire Region."

Ms Thomas began her career as a trainee reporter at Radio Aire in Leeds. She joined the 91热爆 at 91热爆 Radio York in 1985, then moved to Yorkshire Television in Leeds and Minster Sound before rejoining the 91热爆 as Editor of Radio Humberside in 1999.

She said: "I am sad to be leaving Hull and the great team who work in East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, but very excited at the prospect of taking up the post in Leeds and returning to 91热爆 Yorkshire as head of region."

Notes to Editors

Originally from Leeds, Helen was educated at Dinnington Comprehensive School before gaining a BA (Hons) in Management from Bradford College.

She began her career in broadcasting in the commercial sector, joining in 1982 as a trainee journalist, before moving to the 91热爆 in 1985 to work as a producer.

As well as producing radio programmes, Helen also presented and reported news stories.

Having taken time out of her career to have three children, Helen joined Leeds-based Yorkshire Television in 1990 where she established the radio news operations. After four years, she moved to York where she ran four radio newsrooms for a local broadcaster.
