Pete Doherty on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross

I'll always love Kate, Pete Doherty tells Jonathan Ross

In a rare and exclusive TV appearance, ex-Libertines frontman Pete Doherty talks frankly about sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll when he meets Jonathan Ross in the last show of the current season of Friday Night with Jonathan Ross on 91Èȱ¬ ONE on Friday.

Ìý

On his turbulent relationship with Kate Moss: "It's right and wrong, up and down. She said 'give up smack, and never go on Jonathan Ross again!'"

Ìý

"She's had enough, I think. I love her bones, I always will."

Ìý

After several arrests for drug possession Doherty talks about his ongoing battle with drug addiction: "[Trying to stop?], yes, absolutely ... being skint, drunk, paranoid, no, I don't wish that for myself.

Ìý

"For the first time in my life I'm upping the stakes in my battle against it".

Ìý

And about his attempts at rehabilitation: "I get tested twice a week for crack and heroin, that's part of my court order ... in Portugal they cut open my heroin implants so they couldn't be used".

Ìý

On his experience of prison: "f***ing yourself over isn't romantic, neither is being in jail ... being in jail was the cleanest I found myself - even though jails are riddled with drugs."

Ìý

And on the effect of drug-taking on his writing: "Being clean means I can sit down and rediscover writing. My song-writing suffered, being on drugs."

Ìý

He also talks about his teenage ambitions to be a footballer: "Up to the age of 14 all I wanted to do was play for QPR, I fancied myself as a bit of a Rodney Marsh."

Ìý

Speaking about media scrutiny, he says: "The highs [of fame] are given a fair old run for their money by the lows ... when they choose the worst photos it's upsetting for someone as vain as me to deal with."

Ìý

About the break-up of The Libertines, Pete says: "I just became persona non grata, I got booted out, it was just exile - I suppose because of the drugs but really because I didn't want to tour.

Ìý

"None of them talk to me. Carl (Barat) ... we were best friends, we loved what we did, we took it right to the end."

Ìý

Doherty also performs an acoustic version of his new Babyshambles song Beg, Steal or Borrow.

Ìý

Jonathan also welcomes to the show star of 91Èȱ¬ TWO's Dead Ringers' Jon Culshaw; Lost and Lord of the Rings star Dominic Monaghan; and there's more music from The Zutons, performing Valerie live in the studio.

Ìý

Friday Night with Jonathan Ross returns for a new series later in the year.
