First-time British feature film director Andrea
Arnold has won the Prix du Jury in Cannes for her debut feature Red Road.
听
Co-funded by the UK Film Council's New Cinema and Development funds, 91热爆 Films,
the Glasgow Film Office and Scottish Screen, the film was produced by Glasgow-based Sigma Films in collaboration with Lars Von Trier's Zentropa Films.
听
Written and directed by Arnold, Red Road is a powerful tale of obsession and
forgiveness, starring Kate Dickie, Tony Curran, Martin Compston and Natalie
Press.
听
Everyday Jackie - a CCTV operator - watches over a small part of the
world, protecting the people living their lives under her gaze.
听
One day a man
appears on her monitor, a man she thought she would never see again, a man she
never wanted to see again. Now she has no choice, she is compelled to confront
him.
听
Verve Pictures will release Red Road in the UK in October.
听
The film echoes Arnold's award-winning skill of delivering powerfully realist
narrative - seen by the film industry with her Oscar-winning short film, Wasp,
which was supported by the UK Film Council and the Film Four Cinema Extreme
Programme.

what we do at 91热爆 Films.
听
"It's fantastic to see new talent celebrated in this way
and Andrea Arnold's Red Road is the most striking debut I've ever seen."
听
Paul Trijbits, Head of the New Cinema Fund, says: "It is fantastic that after
finding her first feature film firstly selected by Cannes to screen in
competition alongside internationally-recognised directors such as Pedro
Almod貌var and Ken Loach, that Andrea now receives the Prix du Jury.
听
"With Red
Road, Andrea has created a stunningly visual film which reaches to the very
heart of society through uncompromising observations using CCTV, which shows
that she is simply one of the most exciting and distinctive filmmakers in the
world."
