91Èȱ¬ Radio Berkshire introduces The Session, its first ever online show dedicated to new music and local bands, on Saturday 13 May 2006.

Ìý

The Session will launch the Reading Festival demo search competition for bands in the Berkshire area during its first broadcast.

Ìý

The three winning bands will each win the Carling Stage opening slot on each day of this year's Reading Festival.

Ìý

The deadline for demo entries is Monday 5 June.

Ìý

All entries will be listened to and reviewed, then short-listed by a panel of music industry experts, including NME New Bands Editor James Jam and Huw Stephens from 91Èȱ¬ Radio 1's One Music.

Ìý

The Session will reveal a total of 16 short-listed demos over four weeks until the beginning of July.

Ìý

These will be sent to the Mean Fiddler's Reading Festival bands booker Neil Pengelly who will announce the winning three entries on The Session in mid-July.

Ìý

The Session will be presented by Susanne Courtney and music sidekick Linda Serck and will also include sessions, interviews and a chance for local bands to have a platform to air their demos.

Ìý

The show will be downloadable from bbc.co.uk/berkshire.

Ìý

Linda Serck says: "It's great that the Reading Festival is giving something back to local bands, I'm thrilled that we convinced Neil Pengelly to support the Reading music scene by giving three bands this dream opportunity."

Ìý

Susanne Courtney says: "There are just so many brilliant bands in and around Reading at the moment. I can't wait to hear what comes in!

Ìý

"It's such an exciting development for the station too. I've always loved music and can't believe that part of my job now is to listen to it!"

Ìý

Demos should be sent to: The Session, 91Èȱ¬ Radio Berkshire, PO Box 104.4, Reading, RG4 8FH by Monday 5 June.

Ìý
