91Èȱ¬ ONE unveils a new portrait of Her Majesty The Queen at The Queen's Gallery, Buckingham Palace
Ìý
A new portrait of Her Majesty The Queen by Rolf Harris is to be unveiled this Christmas.
Ìý
The portrait, subject of a 60-minute 91Èȱ¬ ONE television programme, The Queen, by Rolf, will go on display at The Queen's Gallery, Buckingham Palace from Tuesday 20 December 2005 by gracious permission of Her Majesty The Queen.
Ìý
The television documentary following the progress of the painting will be broadcast on 91Èȱ¬ ONE at 8.00pm on New Year's Day.
Ìý
Rolf Harris was commissioned by the 91Èȱ¬ earlier in the year to paint The Queen, to celebrate her 80th birthday in 2006.
Ìý
He said at the time: "I am thrilled to bits, hoping that I do a painting that's representational of the way The Queen looks and her obvious charm and friendly quality rather than the very formal."
Ìý
Now, following two sittings at Buckingham Palace, the final painting will be revealed for the very first time.
Ìý
The Queen, by Rolf will take viewers inside Buckingham Palace to share in Rolf's experiences as he attempts the most important painting in his career.
Ìý
91Èȱ¬ ONE was given access to film inside Buckingham Palace during two sittings for the portrait.
Ìý
Back at his studio, Rolf takes viewers through the tradition of royal portraiture as he continues to work on his royal portrait.
Ìý
The newly painted portrait of The Queen by Rolf Harris will go on display to the public from Tuesday 20 December until Sunday 11 June 2006 at The Queen's Gallery, Buckingham Palace.
Ìý
Access to the portrait will be included in the general admission to the gallery throughout normal opening hours.
Ìý
In addition, free admission to view the portrait will be available from 3.30pm every day (last admission 4.30pm).
Ìý
Rolf says:
"It's wonderful that the painting will be on show to the public at Buckingham Palace, and I feel honoured that my work will be joining a long tradition of royal portraits that have been displayed at The Queen's Gallery.
