Nominations for 2005 91Èȱ¬ Sports Personality of the Year open



The definitive review of the sporting year, 91Èȱ¬ Sports Personality of the Year, returns to 91Èȱ¬ ONE on Sunday 11 December.

Nominations for the 2005 91Èȱ¬ Sports Personality of the Year open on Saturday 19 November and close on 8 December at noon, with the top five nominees going forward to a live on-the-night vote on 11 December.

Members of the public can nominate their chosen candidate for the award as follows:

Whenever the number is promoted it must be accompanied by the following call charge message: 'Texts charged at standard operator rate'.

Concluding an eventful year of sport, there will be no shortage of memories and highlights from events including winning the 2012 Olympics, The Ashes, Six Nations rugby, Premiership and Champions League football, World Championship athletics, Wimbledon, Open golf, Snooker World Championship and The Grand National.

Ìý

Strong candidates for the main award include cricketers Andrew Flintoff and Michael Vaughan, sailor Ellen MacArthur, athlete Paula Radcliffe, tennis player Andrew Murray and footballers Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and John Terry.

The evening will culminate with the crowning of the 2005 91Èȱ¬ Sports Personality of the Year, following seven other awards: Team of the Year; Overseas Personality; Coach of the Year; Young Sports Personality of the Year; Unsung Hero; the Helen Rollason award; and The Lifetime Achievement Award.

Ìý

91Èȱ¬ Sport's Sue Barker and Gary Lineker host the programme, live from 91Èȱ¬ Television Centre, with stars from the world of sport in attendance.

Ìý

Voting on the night for Sports Personality of the Year will take place via phone, text and - for digital viewers - through pressing the red button.
