I love my life, Robbie Williams tells Jonathan Ross
Exclusive television interview and performance - Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, 10.35pm, 21 October 2005 on 91Èȱ¬ ONE
(repeated Sunday on 91Èȱ¬ THREE).
Ìý
Robbie Williams talks frankly about his life when he joins Jonathan Ross for a rare interview tonight.
Ìý
He says that he was terrified before performing at this summer's Live8 concert: "I was so scared, I spent the whole day in the cabin. I got on stage and David (Beckham - who introduced him)
looked more scared than me, and I got a perverse joy out of it!
Ìý
"He's a big hero of mine. Victoria's (Beckham) a great person, she said, 'Ooh, he said historical, he ad-libbed that'.
Ìý
"I don't know what it is I do. I come from the tradition of a big Irish family that loves to sing. I love to perform, make great gestures.
Ìý
"Live8 was the crowd, the crowd did it, I just tried to sing in key."
Ìý
He also reveals a self-critical streak about his own songs, like Rock DJ: "I love lyrics, I'm just embarrassed at the words. It's a total load of b****cks."
Ìý
He talks about the Take That years: "We had a good laugh and the lads. I have fond thoughts of them all.
Ìý
"Gary Barlow is an excellent songwriter, totally underrated, contrary to what I used to say." |

And he also dispels the myth that he's a tortured soul: "I'm loving being a pop star right now. Everyone thinks I'm miserable.
Ìý
"I'm so proud of the new stuff; I can't wait to tour - the response I've had is amazing. I'm ten years into a solo career, and I'm so happy."
Ìý
Robbie also performs two tracks from his forthcoming album Intensive Care (released next week) live in the studio.
Ìý
Jonathan also welcomes to the show comedian and actor, The Brief and Qi star Alan Davies; actress Kristin Scott Thomas; and broadcasting icon and new Countdown presenter Des Lynam.
