The search is on to find 91Èȱ¬ Midlands Sports' Unsung Hero for 2005 with the winner - nominated by the public and chosen by a panel of judges - picking up the coveted accolade at the 91Èȱ¬ Midlands Sports Awards glittering ceremony on 4 December.

Last year's Midlands winner was Walter Dimmack from Wolverhampton, who for nearly 40 years has been encouraging and educating young and old alike to swim.

The former building site agent has devoted his life to helping others overcome their fear of water.
Ìý
He beat off competition from hundreds of other worthy candidates to take the top honour.
Ìý
Now the search is on to find this year's winner.

91Èȱ¬ West Midlands is looking for people who give up their time on a voluntary basis to ensure someone else gets the chance to take part in the sport they love.
Ìý
Whether it's washing the kit, making the sandwiches, providing transport or the actual coaching, the 91Èȱ¬ is asking the public to nominate their Unsung Heroes.
Ìý
To qualify, nominees must have given up their time to enable others to participate in sport; this can be helping out an individual, team or teams, in any sport, at any level.

They must also be over 16 years of age and give their time freely, for no financial gain.
Ìý
To put forward a candidate, collect a form from a local 91Èȱ¬ building reception desk or download from the 91Èȱ¬ Where I Live website, complete and return by 28 October, to; Julie Hale, 91Èȱ¬ Midlands Sports Awards, Sports Unsung Hero, 91Èȱ¬ Birmingham, The Mailbox, Birmingham, B1 1RF.

Andy Knowles, 91Èȱ¬ Midlands Sports Awards Manager, says: "The announcement of the Unsung Hero Award always provides the most emotional moment of the night at the annual 91Èȱ¬ Midlands Sports Awards, and also one of the most pleasing because it really does recognise the tireless devotion and energy individuals give, to enable others to take part in their sport."

Winners are announced at a gala ceremony at the National Motorcycle Museum at Bickenhall, near Solihull, on 4 December 2005.

The search for Sports Unsung Hero is taking place across the country.

All 14 regional winners are invited to the 91Èȱ¬ Sports Review of the Year show on 91Èȱ¬ ONE on Sunday 11 December where an overall winner is announced.
