Radio 1 announces activity at Global Gathering and Exit Festival 2005

91Èȱ¬ Radio 1 today announced its broadcast activity at two major festivals this summer: Global Gathering in the UK and Exit Festival in Serbia.

It will be the first time the station has broadcast from either of these festivals and will see Radio 1 continue to innovate and expand its festival coverage.

Global Gathering

Ìý

Global Gathering is dance music's first, and only, two day festival and has attracted record numbers over the past four years.

Ìý

The event will take place at Long Marston Airfield, Stratford-upon-Avon on Friday 29 July and Saturday 30 July.

Ìý

Radio 1, an exclusive radio partner with Global Gathering, will broadcast a mammoth 11 hours of coverage from the event and host its own stage from the beach area on site.

Ìý

Pete Tong will open the festival live on-air (for the first time from a dance music festival) from the Radio 1 stage.

He said: "I'm privileged to be opening the event live on-air with my special guests.

Ìý

"As a two day weekender this year, Global Gathering is going to be better than ever and I can't wait to rock the crowds from the mighty Radio 1 stage at the famous Global Gathering beach."

Exit Festival

Ìý

The four day Exit Festival takes place from Thursday 7 July to Sunday 10 July in the historic Petrovaradin Fortress, in Novi Sad, Serbia.

Ìý

It has grown from a student protest into the biggest music festival in Eastern Europe.

Ìý

Radio 1 will broadcast shows across all four days from Annie Mac (who kicks off the coverage), Annie Nightingale, Fabio and Gilles Peterson.

Annie Mac said: "Over the years Exit has become one of the coolest music festivals in Europe, it gets bigger and better every year and I'm proud to be kicking off Radio 1's coverage.

"The line-up is killer and I intend to seek out my favourite acts and some great new music to bring my listeners."

Jason Carter, Radio 1's executive producer of live events, added: "Global Gathering will be the big UK dance festival this year and represents a key part of Radio 1's live music calendar.

This year Global Gathering has for the first time extended the festival to two days, the festival will feature massive acts such as Paul Oakenfold, Deep Dish, Roger Sanchez, Layo and Bushwacka, Norman Jay, Tiesto, John Digweed, Paul Van Dyk, Erick Morillo, Armin Van Buuren, Steve Lawler and Plump DJs.

In total Global Gathering will have 15 music arenas over the two days that will cover the complete spectrum of dance, hip hop, drum & bass and breaks.

At Global Gathering, Radio 1's digital sister station 1Xtra will be hosting an off-air soundsystem featuring the best up and coming new talent from across the UK.

Ìý

The station will have six of the station's DJs - Jay Da Flex, Rodney P & Skitz, Excalibah, Flight and Aaron Ross - all spinning over two days.

Ìý

The fortress site at Exit Festival, built high on the banks of the River Danube, houses 18 performance areas including the main stage and the dance stage and will host acts such as The White Stripes, Underworld, Garbage, Carl Cox, Sasha and Evil 9 - a diverse selection headlined by some of the biggest live bands and dance acts from genres like hip hop to house, drum and bass to indie, latin to rock.
