Friday Night With
Jonathan Ross - 3 June, 91Èȱ¬ ONE (repeated 5 June, 91Èȱ¬ THREE)
Ìý
Academy award-winning actress, fitness guru, political
activist and sex symbol Jane Fonda talks about her
life on and off-screen with Jonathan Ross on the show
this Friday.
Ìý
Fonda, whose autobiography My Life So Far documents
her extraordinary story, explains why she lost her passion for films:
"I wasn't having fun any more; I was scared. I just thought I was
no good any more - I didn't feel creative so I quit."
Ìý
She discusses how her poor self-image hampered her early
life: "I thought I was plain and fat and I tried to be a secretary,
but I was fired - I was too bad."
Ìý
She talks about entertaining Brigitte Bardot, ex-wife
of her own then husband, Roger Vadim - "I gave her thick blood
sausage: I thought maybe she'd choke on it," - and working with
screen legend Robert Redford: "I always fell in love with him.
You enjoy love scenes with people you like... [but] we were both married."
Ìý
She also talks about her difficult relationship with
her father Henry Fonda: "He didn't know how to be close. I was
able, when he was dying, to tell him what I wanted to say, but he couldn't
reciprocate. I felt grateful I was able to do that."
Ìý
She talks about her political activism and her view
of US politics now: "I became a lightning rod and the right wing
continues to flaunt that. [now] it's far worse - the lies, the manipulation,
the control of the media...
Ìý
"It's pretty
dangerous. They're clever at scaring people into silence."
Ìý
She also discusses addiction and self-image: "This
culture tells us we have to be perfect so it's an anxiety; you move
outside yourself and fill [the space] with addictions. Mine was food."
Ìý
Jonathan also welcomes to the show daytime
TV's Fern Britton, who talks about her rapport with fellow
presenter Phillip Schofield: "We were thrown together because we
had all sorts of problems when Richard and Judy left. then John [Leslie]
had his problems.
Ìý
"We'd never met until the morning we went straight
into the show. Once a year we go to Claridges and get very drunk."
Ìý
She talks about being a role model for bigger women:
"Every woman wants to be better. I don't really like it but you
have to live with it."
Ìý
Motley Crue's Tommy Lee and
Vince Neil share some tall stories about the excesses of their
rock 'n' roll lifestyle and their friendship with Ozzy Osbourne: "One
of our first major tours was opening for Ozzy. We were in awe of him
. he started riding with us, unless Sharon was there.
Ìý
"[One night] Ozzy's handlers had given up on him
- they said, 'Tommy - good luck'. This was after he'd licked up pee
and snorted a line of ants!"
Ìý
And there's an exclusive appearance from Coldplay
live in the studio, performing their new single Speed of Sound as well
as some classic Coldplay tracks.
