Sir Harold Evans will present
A Point of View on 91Èȱ¬ Radio 4 from 29 July 2005, for a
run of 13 weeks - bringing his unique experience and knowledge to a
UK audience.

Harry Evans said: "I was eager to find 'the real America'
when I first crossed the Atlantic in the Fifties. Now I've lived here
for 20 years and I'm still searching.
Ìý
"I hope to get a little closer in the 13 weeks
and I hope listeners will join the random expeditions into its politics
and money, history, culture and personalities.
Ìý
"But a little indulgence, please. America doesn't
fit on a postcard. It is just too diverse, too exhilarating and too
maddening - and too big. England could fit seven times over into Texas.
Or so they tell me whenever I check into Dallas."
Ìý
Mark Damazer, Controller of Radio 4, said: "I'm delighted
Harry Evans has agreed to become one of the commentators who will contribute
to A Point Of View.
Ìý
"I believe listeners will be very well served by
his huge journalistic experience, his knowledge of politics and culture
on both sides of the Atlantic - and his humour".

Once voted the best British newspaper editor of all
time, Evans symbolised a glorious age of investigative reporting in
the Sixties and Seventies. Then, in the America of the Eighties and
Nineties, he shot to fame in the world of publishing.
Ìý
With his wife Tina Brown at the helm of magazines
such as Vanity Fair and then the New Yorker, they became leaders of the US
media set.
Ìý
Now Evans has turned to writing history. He brings his
wide range of experience and knowledge to a UK audience on Radio 4.
