Fifteen-year-old Jade, the young mum who made headlines this week when it transpired that she and her two sisters had all had babies before the age of 16, will appear on 91Èȱ¬ THREE this Monday (30 May) in an episode of Desperate Midwives.

The family, dubbed by the press as a 'baby factory', have sparked stories across the media and brought the issue of teenage pregnancy in the UK to the fore.

It seems that Jade and her sister are not alone.

Figures released this week by the Office of National Statistics show teenage pregnancy is on the up, with the number of 13 to 15-year-olds getting pregnant rising 2.5% to 8,076 between 2002 and 2003.
Ìý
The UK has the highest teenage pregnancy rate in western Europe, standing at 42.8 conceptions for every 1,000 girls under 18 in 2003.

That is five times the rate in the Netherlands, twice that of Germany and three times that of France.

The programme reveals that one in every 15 births at Derby City General Hospital is to a teenage mum.

Midwife Nerissa is an inner-city community midwife who visits expectant mothers in some of the toughest parts of town.
Ìý
Desperate Midwives follows her as she makes home visits to teenager Jade before and after childbirth.
Ìý
She is very pleased with the way the family are coping with three babies to look after and says about the family: "I had a very positive and receptive experience with the family who were very caring towards each other."
