To celebrate the 60th anniversary of VE Day and to say thank you to the veterans, David Beckham has recorded a special message which will be screened during a spectacular concert, taking place on Sunday 8 May in Trafalgar Square.

Ìý

The two-hour concert, titled A Party To Remember Live From Trafalgar Square - VE Day 60th, will be hosted by Eamonn Holmes and Natasha Kaplinsky and is brought to you by The Royal British Legion, the Mayor of London and the 91Èȱ¬.

Ìý

Millions will watch and hear the historic live broadcast on 91Èȱ¬ ONE and on 91Èȱ¬ London 94.9FM, while 15,000 lucky ticket holders will attend the event.

Ìý

Music and sport both played a huge part in maintaining morale during the Second World War and many famous footballers of the Forties served in the forces.

Ìý

David Beckham says: "No matter what age you are, it is important to remember the sacrifice made by many people during the Second World War.

Ìý

"I, like many others, would like to say thank you to those people as part of the VE Day celebrations taking place this Sunday."

Ìý

David is sadly unable to attend the concert in person due to his team commitments in Spain.

Ìý

The Royal British Legion, the Mayor of London and the 91Èȱ¬ are also thrilled to announce that Shane Richie and Lucie Silvas have been added to an already stunning line up of live performances.

Ìý

They will perform a unique mixture of classics and a sprinkling of contemporary tracks, alongside Will Young, Katie Melua, Katherine Jenkins, Sir Cliff Richard, Daniel Bedingfield, Hayley Westenra, Heather Small and Claire Sweeney.

Ìý

The concert will also include unique video footage of the original and very moving 1945 celebrations in Trafalgar Square, and special readings throughout the day by celebrity guests - such as the newly-announced Richard E Grant and Virginia McKenna, alongside Heather Mills McCartney and Christopher Eccleston.

Ìý

As well as watching the concert live on 91Èȱ¬ ONE, people can also listen live on 91Èȱ¬ London 94.9 FM. 91Èȱ¬ Radio 2 will broadcast live features from Trafalgar Square during the event, with concert highlights broadcasting later on in the evening.

Ìý

There will be VE Day celebrations in many other areas of the UK, and the Trafalgar Square concert will also be relayed live on a number of giant video screens in cities across the UK including Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester and Hull.

Ìý

A Party To Remember: Live From Trafalgar Square - VE Day 60th is being organised by the 91Èȱ¬, The Royal British Legion and the Mayor of London with the support of the London Development Agency.
