91Èȱ¬ Radio 1 has announced The Residency, a dance music slot that will be the home of six new shows broadcast on rotation every week.

The Residency will be championed by Pete Tong who initially invited each DJ to record demos at Radio 1.
Ìý
Pete announced the line-up to Radio 1 listeners on his show and will act as mentor to the six.
Ìý
The new slot has been designed to ensure Radio 1 continues to champion the most important new dance music genres from the UK, whilst also giving new and emerging talent their first chance to broadcast on national radio.
Ìý
Each show will play once every six weeks for a total of six shows, after 36 weeks the entire line-up will be reviewed by Pete Tong with possible DJ additions, new genres and changes to be announced.

The Residency will take over from Dreem Teem's The Soulful Sessions.
Ìý
Dreem Teem members Spoony, Timmi Magic and Mikee B joined Radio 1 in 2001.
Ìý
Spoony will continue his weekend breakfast show and the remaining members will leave the station in mid-April.
Ìý
The new show (Sunday mornings, 3.00-5.00) will be hosted by the following DJs, in order of rotation:

Eddie Halliwell - across the board from trance, techno to hard dance;
Ìý
Nic Fanciulli - acid house and techno;
Ìý
Jon O'Bir - progressive/uplifting trance
Ìý
Kutski - underground hard dance/hardcore;
Ìý
Crissy Criss - drum & bass/jungle
Ìý
Trophy Twins - all genres of house, from funky to tribal.

"Nic and Eddie were made Radio 1 Residents a year ago and have played at many of our live events, they've now got the chance to shine as broadcasters for the first time.

The Residency will be on Sunday mornings, 3.00 to 5.00, from Sunday 1 May.

Nic Fanciulli
Ìý
Aged 25 from Kent, of Italian descent.
Ìý
Nic is one of the hottest rising talents in house music as a DJ, producer and remixer.
Ìý
He started DJ'ing aged 16 in his hometown Maidstone. Nic's first big gig was at local house institution ClubClass, he got residency there aged 20. He soon got a second residency at The Gallery, Turnmills and in 2005 became quarterly resident at Space in Miami.

Nic and Andy Chatterly formed Saved Records in 2004 to release production and remix work under the names Skylark and Buick Project.
Ìý
Skylark's That's More Like It, the re-edit of Tears for Fears' Shout, Buick Project's Drop Da Beat and Chancer plus remixes for Kylie Minogue and Timo Maas have cemented Nic's reputation as one to watch, further releases will follow in 2005.

2004 has seen Nic do high profile gigs and a Radio 1 Essential Mix all from the White Isle. He became Radio 1 Resident last year and will release a legendary Renaissance double CD and tour the world with it in September 2005.

Eddie Halliwell
Ìý
Aged 25 from Wigan. Eddie Halliwell has quickly built a remarkable reputation in clubland.
Ìý
He caught the DJ'ing bug at 15, by 2002 he held residencies at Goodgreef and Gatecrasher. Eddie now headlines at both clubs and DJs regularly at some of the biggest nights and dance festivals in the UK.

In early 2004 Mixmag voted him DJ of the Year 2003.
Ìý
He has toured extensively through 2004/05 across Asia and Australia and made numerous visits to the USA, Russia and Dubai.
Ìý
In 2004, Eddie closed Creamfields and debuted at Godskitchen and has been resident for three seasons at Judgement Sundays Ibiza.

Eddie was made Radio 1 Resident in mid-2004 resulting in a third Radio 1 Essential Mix plus guest mixes on Judge Jules and Pete Tong's shows.

He also mixed one disc of Gatecrasher Residents Transmission and put out two legendary BOSH! CDs with Mixmag.

Jon O'Bir
Ìý
Aged 21, from Nottingham. He started mixing in his bedroom aged 17 in 2001.
Ìý
Entered the M8 magazine DJ competition in 2002 and won, he got the chance to play for Motion in Derby and also to DJ on internet radio station bpm.
Ìý
Jon was noticed for his progressive/uplifting trance and expertly blended mixes and was soon booked by Godskitchen.
Ìý
By the age of 19 he started as warm up DJ at Godskitchen for Fergie who soon gave his support and invited Jon on his Radio 1 show.
Ìý
Jon became resident at Gods Kitchen in Birmingham in 2004 and is already DJ'ing around the world.

Kutski
Ìý
Aged 22, from Chester. Kutski started DJ'ing aged 15, the first big event he played was Elevate in Bangor which resulted in a residency.
Ìý
His turntable skills resulted in Kutski being named Energyuk.com's DJ of the month three times in 2004.
Ìý
Kutski's DJ'ing has taken him across the network of underground and mainstream hard dance clubs in the UK. His current residencies include Tasty (London), Ripsnorter (Bristol) and Elevate (Bangor).

In 2004, Kutski released debut track Making me itch under the name SPX. He signed to the Knuckleheadz label and featured on compilations Insomnia 4 and Extreme Euphoria 3.

His tune Closer to God released on X-Cite got rave reviews and support from Anne Savage, Lisa Lashes and The Tidy Boys.

A collaboration with Ollie (Warp Brothers) has been signed for release on the Tidy Tools EP and has already featured on the Tidy Addict compilation.
