Lesley Douglas, Controller of 6 Music, says: "I have been a long-time
admirer of Steve - he is, undoubtedly, one of the leading music presenters
in this country.
Ìý
"His support of British and new music is outstanding and I'm delighted
that he has agreed to join 6 Music's daytime line-up."
Ìý
Steve says: "It's a very exciting time for music at the moment, so
to be offered an extra five shows a week is a dream really.
Ìý
"It's terrific to be given a new challenge at what I believe is
an increasingly important station - one that's aimed at people who really
enjoy their music.
Ìý
"Hopefully the new show won't be too po-faced or serious - and it certainly
won't just be me and a bunch of old indie records.
Ìý
"We'll be delving into all sorts of music, with a lot of input
from listeners. I'm just getting more nosey about what other people
like."
Ìý
In Steve's show he brings listeners new music from emerging artists,
citing their influences and setting them alongside music from more established
and iconic artists.
Ìý
He will also continue with the successful monthly initiative - Lamacq
In The City - spotlighting up-and-coming talent in venues all around
the country.
Ìý
Steve will continue to present Lamacq Live on Mondays (9.00pm-1.00am)
on 91Èȱ¬ Radio 1.
Ìý
From Saturday 9 April Andrew Collins moves to weekends, presenting
the 6 Music Chart on Saturday and a new three hour show for Sunday afternoons.
Ìý
Lesley Douglas says: "I am very excited about Andrew's new shows. He
has a mind which can turn to anything - from music to television, from
art to trivia - something that listeners will be able to enjoy in his
new Sunday show.
Ìý
"His unique style will bring a new attitude to the weekend on
6 Music."
Ìý
Of his new Sunday show Andrew says: "While the show will of course
be driven by great music, there'll also be more room for conversation,
with a regular comic guest mulling over the week that was, a pop star
dropping in to reveal what they do in their spare time, a review of
the week's papers and a chance for listeners to tell us what they've
been buying, listening to, reading and watching on DVD."
Ìý
The new 6 Music Chart on Saturdays invites more listener interaction,
looks back at charts of yesteryear and finds Andrew chatting to brand
new talent.
Ìý
The programme is an album chart at the cutting edge of contemporary
music. Based on sales, it explores the best in rock, urban, dance and
indie music.
Ìý
It's a programme designed to champion new albums from a variety of
credible artists, none of whom have had a UK top 40 album.
Ìý
