91Èȱ¬ Radio 1 today announced its second Under 18s DJ Search and Club Tour with UKClubCulture.

Ìý

The DJ search will commence with eight heats from 14 to 17 February and will take in eight clubs in eight places nationwide - Newcastle, Basildon, Coventry, Bournemouth, Swansea, Dundee, Maidstone and Jersey.

Ìý

The two semi finals will take place on 22 and 29 March in Romford and Rotherham respectively with the grand final at the end of April.

2004 saw Radio 1 team up for the first time with UKClubCulture to host its biggest ever off-air Under 18s DJ Search.

Ìý

The response was huge and the quality of entrants extremely high.

Ìý

Both the overall winner Josh 'Rinse' Roberts and the runner up Joey M have since received national TV, radio and print recognition with gigs around the UK and abroad.

2005's Under 18s DJ Search promises to unearth more new young talent across a wide musical spectrum, from hip hop to trance, RnB to alternative and bhangra to pop.

Ìý

The eight heats in February will each be hosted and judged by a Radio 1 DJ including Tim Westwood, Dave Pearce, Spoony and Judge Jules.

Ìý

The overall winner will then spend two days at Radio 1 enjoying a master class with a Radio 1 DJ of their choice.

Ìý

Entrants must be aged between 14 and 17 and will need to enter before 31 January 2005.

Ian Parkinson, Radio 1's Head of Specialist & Speech, said: "The Under 18s DJ Search is a great opportunity for our younger listeners to be part of the clubbing experience with some of the UK's biggest DJs.

Ìý

"We were delighted with the results last year, it shows just how much young talent there is out there who want a chance to shine."

Tim Westwood added: "DJ'ing for young people is what it's all about, the under 18s have a phenomenal energy and passion for music.

Ìý

"Seeing the young kids DJ and start to make a living is a great thing for me to see, it's inspirational."
