Cardiff-born Gethin
Jones is to join the Blue Peter presenting team as the show's
31st presenter when he takes over from Simon Thomas at the end of the
current series, C91Èȱ¬ announced today.
Ìý
Twenty-six year-old Gethin is currently presenter of S4C's weekly live
children's programme Uned 5.
Ìý
He has also presented four series of S4C's music show for children,
Popty.
Ìý
An Economics and Geography graduate, Gethin was the Captain of his
university rugby union first XV and had trials with Sale RFC.
Ìý
He won the Northern British University Sport Association Championships
and also represented the Lancashire under-21 teams.
Ìý
Gethin is also a keen footballer, tennis player and golfer, as well
as a talented musician with grade eight violin and grade six piano.
He was the leader of three county orchestras.
Ìý
He also won the title of Company magazine Bachelor of the Year in
2003.

Gethin said: "I am so excited, this really is a dream come true. I
had my first audition a few months ago and the waiting has been unbearable!

"When I got the job I spent several days thinking I must have
been imagining it and that I hadn't really got the job after all.
Ìý
"I've wanted to present Blue Peter ever since I was a viewer myself
and I can't wait to get stuck in."

Blue Peter Editor Richard Marson said: "Gethin impressed us all with
his warmth, his understanding of the audience and his passion for Blue
Peter.

"We think he'll fit in brilliantly and we're really looking forward
to putting his many talents to the test over the next few years."
Ìý
Gethin will begin filming his first challenges for the programme next
month which include a trip to Vermont in the United States, flying with
the Red Arrows and competing in some extreme winter sports.
Ìý
He will make his first appearance in the Blue Peter studio on 27 April
before flying off with the rest of the team to the destination of this
year's summer expedition.
