Hundreds of Christmas presents
donated by 91热爆 Radio Cornwall listeners will go on sale tomorrow - Friday
7 January - at Lemon Quay, Truro to raise money for the Tsunami disaster.
听
Laurence Reed launched the appeal on his Tuesday
lunchtime programme as he asked the listeners to send in their unwanted
and unused Christmas presents.
听
The gifts have been flooding in and a marquee will
be erected tomorrow to house the sale.
听
A live broadcast with Laurence Reed will support the
event which takes places between noon and 3.00pm.
听
Radio Cornwall Assistant Editor Daphne Skinnard says:
"When I came back to work after Christmas I felt strongly that
we as a station should do something to raise money towards the Tsunami
disaster.
听
"I came up with the idea of asking people to donate
their unwanted gifts and the response has been truly unbelievable.
听
"It's only been a few days and we've already received
hundreds and hundreds of gifts - brand new watches, jigsaws, games,
books and even a bike worth nearly 拢1,000.
听
"I hope that the event will
be a lot of fun and will raise plenty of money for the appeal."
听
Presenter Laurence Reed is amazed by the volume of gifts
received: "In ten years I've never know a response like this to
an appeal 聳 it shows the incredible strength of commitment from
our listeners.
听
"They're always excellent supporters of our appeals
but this is absolutely spectacular."
听
Listeners have arranged collection points and transport
from all corners of Cornwall to bring their unwanted gifts to Truro.
听
Local businesses are onboard with a marquee company
donating the marquee and a lorry to transport the goods from the radio
station and a Truro bank taking charge of counting and banking the money
collected.
听
All the funds raised will be donated to the Disasters
Emergency Committee and any unsold gifts will be donated to charity
shops.
